It also has the feature of smart mapping, which makes use of multiple sensors to help determine the areas in your home that need attention and then create a clean path around them. This technology is very efficient at navigating around toys that have been left on the floor, or furniture legs sticking out underneath things. Roomba also has a sensor that will snap Roomba to its real-world location if it starts to drift away from its initial location. iRobot has also introduced a new set of rollers under the bottom of the Roomba that don't have bristles and therefore tend to resist tangles more than earlier models. They're also a bit taller than previous rollers and are able to fit under beds and couches with low sides and are designed to let this model move more easily across a variety of flooring types. The Roomba 980 is distinguished from other models with a high-end price tag by its brand new dirt detection feature, which uses a camera in order to identify dirt that has been embedded. This is a significant improvement over the previous model, which relied on a sensor-driven pseudorandom coverage method to bounce around the room and clean at least three times from different angles. The Roomba 980 performed well in our tests on carpets and hard floors. It scored extremely well on low-pile carpet and also on mid-pile. It did a good job collecting pet hair, however it struggled with the thick and long pet hair that was stuck together. The Roomba 980 is still one of the most efficient robots we've reviewed, despite these minor limitations. It's also less expensive than other top-of-the-line models. The iRobot Roomba can be set up quickly and is ready for use right away. After removing the pull tab for the battery and the yellow bin insert from undercarriage, all you have to connect it to its Home Base docking station or a wall socket, hit its large Clean button, and let it go to work. It will automatically return to its dock when the battery runs out or is full of debris. It also has indicator lights on the top of the device to indicate that the bin is full, it needs to be recharged or its Wi-Fi signal is lost.
